Abstract
The objective is for the auditor to obtain concise, relevant, and up-to-date information with respect to the situation on the farm being audited and, at the same time, to measure its level of compliance with the standards currently in place. Those who use this Manual, for example, extension ofcers from the private and
public sector, should have some knowledge of the GAP practices and should be able to draw from their own experience and judgment to ensure that their fndings are representative of what is being practiced, observed and reported on the farm.
The scope of the Manual spans giving an overview of the emergence and use of GAPs, providing those who are going to be auditors with an understanding of the issues to be addressed in guiding and assisting farmers and producers. It further enables the ‘would be’ GAP auditor to understand and implement feld techniques for GAP auditing. The Manual is intended to serve as a teaching guide and includes all activities relating to the production, harvesting and handling of fresh produce.
