Agricultura de América Latina y el Caribe: Bastión ante la crisis mundial y motor para el desarrollo

Abstract

The topics addressed in the international expert workshop are summarized to analyze “the contribution of agriculture and the rural milieu to sustainable development and food security in the new international context”. The main conclusion of this effort is that, to solve the current crisis and some of the main structural problems that the countries of the region will face in the future, it is necessary to rethink the current development model and revalue the role of rural areas. Furthermore, to enhance the contribution of rural areas to development, it is necessary to reverse the historical trend of underinvesting in it and investing more and better in agriculture.
